History

We started in the early 80’s when we started raising goats, chickens and strawberries. After a few summers we stopped growing strawberries. During the next few years we slowly worked our way out of the chickens and goats. We had started selling excess vegetables at the end of our driveway in the late 80’s. We added fresh corn soon after. The demand for these items kept growing, so we kept trying to produce more. We added tunnel houses (greenhouses) to produce tomatoes earlier in the summer. In 1999 we stated producing mums for sale, 400 that first year. In 2001 we experimented with annuals, growing 100 flats that year. For 2003 we put up our first large greenhouse to grow hanging baskets, potted plants and flats. Our future looks bright as we add variety and quality to our offerings.

Sprout Farm in the news:

From the Mashpee Enterprise, 2004:
Phyllis Sprout tends some of the plants she and her husband, Gerald, are selling this season. They have expanded Sprout Farm on Quinaquisset Avenue by adding greenhouses. Sprout Farm is a popular stopping place for residents and visitors.”

From the Falmouth Enterprise, 1984:

From the Cape Cod Times, 1986:
After reading Howard Ruff’s best-selling book “How to Prosper during the Coming Bad Years,” Phyllis Sprout persuaded her husband Jay that they ought to raise milking goats on their 2.7 acres in Mashpee. Raiser food is expensive but worth the trouble, Mrs. Sprout says.”
